Of a sensitive nature...

Some other bloggers I read from South Korea have already touched upon this issue, but I also wanted to share this article with you as I find it interesting and a little disheartening.   You can find the article here.

I realize that it is a controversial issue, so I won't tell you how to think or what to feel.  Just read the article if you'd like and gather your own thoughts about it.  If you have any thoughts you'd like to share, you can post a comment or send me a message privately.

Thanks for reading.

  1. From the article:

“Even if we don't intend to hold anyone accountable for all those illegal abortions in the past, we must crack down on them from now on,” the minister for health, welfare and family affairs, Jeon Jae-hee, said.

So catch them, tell them 'oh you did a bad thing! Stop doing it now OR ELSE we'll catch you again!', and let them go. Does not compute.

As the article reads, it sounds like a top-down attempt to change things. The society as a whole isn't yet on board - and with the herd mentality in full effect, you NEED the majority with you before you start.

I'm Chris in South Korea, over at chrisinsouthkorea.blogspot.com - nice to meet you by the way.

  2. Thanks for reading and commenting. The article does read oddly, and I'm unsure how the government intends on making all these changes they want. It is disheartening to read, like I mentioned earlier, simply because of how the government wants to change the state of women's health in Korea.

Nice to meet you Chris, and I enjoy reading your blog!

  3. As for me, i'll leave the matter/decision to the women themselves. Educate them, yes. Persuade them, yes. But forcing our morals to them or to anyone is a no-no for me.
