Happy Halloween!

I just wanted to wish everyone a Happy Halloween, especially to all my friends and family back home enjoying the saccharine-filled holiday.  And I hope every Carolina student and alum in Chapel Hill right now is enjoying homecoming and the Heels' win over W&M.  Even if your body isn't physically in Chapel Hill this weekend, I'm sure your mind is--just like mine.

Whenever I hear this quote, particularly at the start of the football or basketball introductory videos, I feel a certain tug in my heart:

What is it that binds us to this place as to no other? It is not the well or the bell or the stone walls. Or the crisp October nights or the memory of dogwoods blooming.  Our loyalty is not only to William Richardson Davie, though we are proud of what he did 200 years ago today. Nor even to Dean Smith, though we are proud of what he did last March. No, our love for this place is based on the fact that it is, as it was meant to be, the University of the people.
-Charles Kuralt, UNC Bicentennial Celebration, 1993

So enjoy your weekend of football, costumes, candy, and even a party or two.  Enjoy the gorgeous NC weather if you're in the Southern Part of Heaven.  I know I will be 'going to Carolina in my mind.'

  1. Happy Halloween! It's not something we celebrate down here overmuch, but I'm looking forward to participating in 2011!

  2. Well, there was definitely a lot of people out last night in costume celebrating at the usual haunts. We checked out a True Blood party on Friday night at Tequilaz that was good; they had great drink specials.

We'll be looking forward to seeing you around soon!
