Chinese Food in Gwangju!

Chinese food lovers rejoice!  Those of you looking for stir fry or fried rice dishes like your favorite Chinese restaurant back home, look no further than the Courtyard, a new restaurant that opened this past Saturday, February 20th.  Located in the first alley after the McDonald's downtown (and across from Zara department store), this quaint restaurant offers a great menu for those aching for that familiar flavor.  Its cheery yellow paint and eye-catching wall photos give it a comfortable and inviting atmosphere.

I ordered the chicken stir fry with mushrooms, mixed vegetables, and rice, which was a reasonable 6,000 won.  My boyfriend ordered the fried rice with chicken, also 6,000 won.  Both dishes were equally delicious, boasting the taste of home-cooked goodness.  The owner, Alan, had his mother come in from China to get the ball rolling on cooking, and to help facilitate the opening of the restaurant.  To celebrate a successful opening--and to express gratitude for Alan's mom, there was a cake commemorating the "first birthday" of the restaurant.

The menu has a little something for everybody: mild and spicy, rice and noodle, chicken and shrimp and vegetable.  There are even dumplings, but sadly, we were too stuffed from our main entrees to try them at that time.

I highly recommend checking out the Courtyard for some quality Chinese food, a great atmosphere, and friendly service.  You'll really feel at home in this place!  For more information, you can join their Facebook group here.
